La Brasserie Street

Was headed to Richmond in the morning to meet up with some friends. On my way, I travel by Vancouver City Centre Canada Line Station; I remembered seeing an interesting street vendor a few days ago, so I wanted to try them today. I got there around 11, and had to wait a few minutes for them to be ready for customers.

It was easy picking what to eat at this food stall, they only serve one item of food, the Brass Chicken Sandwich $6.25 (Beer brined rotisserie chicken in gravy, on a buttermilk bun, topped with crispy onions) 3/5. The sandwich came wrapped in a foil wrap and was ready quickly after ordering. 

This was definitely something new for me, the flavor was really unique. I think it was the beer brined chicken and gravy that made that taste. I didn't really especially like or dislike it, but it was alright, something new. I liked the crispy onions that topped the sandwich, they were actually crispy; I also liked how the onion taste was overridden because I don't like onions that much. The rotisserie chicken was decent, but I found the texture a little rough; however, there was a piece of chicken that tasted extremely delicious because there was some fat on it. The chicken was very moist because of the gravy, this is pretty yummy, but again, I did not really like the texture. The sandwich bun was decent, it wasn't overly toasted or overly soft. One of my gripes is that I wish the sandwich would come much hotter. It was only slightly warm, I felt it would have been much more delicious if it came hot.

Overall: I do not think I'll try this specific sandwich again, but I like their ideas of food, so when they have something new, I'll definitely try it!

Bun Me Baguette

This past weekend was the Summer Live 125 Celebration in Stanley Park for Vancouver's 125 Birthday. Multiple street vendors set up shop inside Brockton Oval to serve food to hordes of hungry people; I was one of them. I had a hard time picking which vendor to purchase from, but I saw a big lineup at Bun Me Baguette, so I decided to try this one.

I've never had a Baguette before and I had no idea what it is, but I thought it was sort of like Subs at Subway. I personally don't get why so many people like Subway, I don't like it at all. At first, I thought Bun Me Baguette would be similar and I wouldn't like it because it looks like a sub. But boy was I surprised! 

They had two options only, either BBQ Lemongrass Chicken or Lemongrass Tofu. And they also offered three levels of spiciness for risk takers, brave people, or people who can handle spicy; however, I can not handle spicy that well, so I opted for no spicy. The vendors themselves were Vietnamese (I'm pretty sure they were) so this is definitely authentic Vietnamese Baguette. Here's which one I picked:

• BBQ chicken was amazing, it had that strong "BBQ" taste which I just absolutely love; the chicken was also quite juicy when bitten into
• The various vegetables they used (cucumber, cilantro, carrots, daikon) were cold and refreshing, especially the big slice of cucumber
• The bun itself was unbelievably crispy, so good...
• The sauce they used was a perfect fit for the baguette, I do not know how to really describe the taste

Overall: I definitely want to eat this again!

Richmond / Summer Night Market Food Stalls

Being the opening weekend of the annual Richmond / Summer Night Market, I expected a huge crowd. However, with the wet Vancouver weather, crowds were much smaller than I originally expected. It was the first time I have been to the Night Market since many years ago. From my limited memory of when I last visited, there were noticeably less stalls. I'd say roughly 60% were food stalls, while 40% were merchandise stalls. Honestly, I was more interested in the food stalls, as the merchandise stalls were filled with merchandise I could buy on Chinese websites!, although there were some interesting finds. 

I was not hungry because I already had dinner before, but I did have some food samples from various stalls. And with the rain showers on and off, I was not really in the mood of buying food. I did, however, take pictures of EVERY food stall, so when you visit, you can have a feeling if what you want to try. I will be trying to sort the pictures into the various food ethnics.

Overall: The food stalls reminds me of night markets in Asia. The atmosphere has been recreated successfully. I would like to thank the various vendors who gave me a smile :). I'll bring an empty stomach next time.
